Madeleine Coalter
I am currently pursuing a degree in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology at the University of Florida, where my academic journey has deepened my understanding of the human body and its intricate systems. Through rigorous coursework and practical experiences, I have developed a strong passion for the role that nutrition and exercise play in health and disease prevention.
My Story
Through my work as a Research Assistant in Dr. Cora Best's nutrition lab, I’ve gained valuable insights into the impact that dietary choices can have on health outcomes. Additionally, my role as a Group Fitness Instructor at the University of Florida RecSports gym has allowed me to observe and experience the significant benefits of regular physical activity on overall well-being. These experiences along with the knowledge I have gained from my college courses have shaped my belief in the power of lifestyle interventions as a means of enhancing health.

In the United States, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of death, yet it’s a condition that can often be managed or even prevented with the right lifestyle choices. I am passionate about the use of exercise and food as medicine, and believe there needs to be a greater emphasis on these topics in the medical field. My long term career goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner who not only treats patients but also educates them on the critical roles that nutrition and exercise play in their long-term health. I’m passionate about empowering individuals to make informed choices that lead to better health and a higher quality of life.
